Advanced Text Mining of Regulatory Documents Using NLP

Objective

In collaboration with CDER, TConneX uses NLP (Nature Language Processing) tool for the extraction, collection, storage, retrieval, analysis, and interpretation of regulatory science data from an array of CDER generated documents, and to archive or index the data using available standard dictionaries, nomenclature, and ontologies.

Scope

Quantitative Data Mining Tool for CDER Post-market Drug Safety Monitoring and Pharmacovigilance

Objective

TConneX is developing a software tool capable of quantitative data mining of NLM MEDLINE literature database which contains 27 million medical citations to detect novel drug-adverse event (ADE) safety signals. Scope

  • TConneX has collaborated with FDA CDER to develop PEARL, an innovative data mining tool to conduct a systematic analysis of the entire MEDLINE database for quantitative signal generation and signal management. The generated drug-adverse event signals are configured and visually displayed to permit FDA users to easily identify trends or patterns for specific drugs within and across the drug class and to understand the safety profile for a drug within the drug class.
  • The full production system will be scaled up so that the system can be utilized by up to 200 FDA medical officers and safety reviewers across several FDA CDER divisions including The Office of Surveillance and Epidemiology (OSE), and The Office of New Drugs (OND).
